Solution-focused Support

Practical Support for Life's Immediate Challenges

integrative therapy (56)
Sometimes in life, we can hit a stumbling block - and struggle to regain our balance or direction.

Maybe your career path seems more uncertain than it used to ...or perhaps you're facing a dilemma and the way forward is unclear.
Such issues can be difficult to work out on your own.

What is Solution-focused Support?

If you feel that your issues don't require the long-term commitment of traditional therapy— but need practical help to figure things out right now, Solution-focused support can provide this.
Think of it as a helping hand to get you from A to B. This isn't psychotherapy; it's a collaborative, forward-looking space where we work together to find solutions to your more immediate challenges.
Below are some of the key approaches I implement in my solution-focused sessions ...

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

I use CBT to help you understand how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. My focus isn't on the past, but on empowering you with practical skills to take control of your reactions. We'll set achievable goals and use techniques to test new ways of thinking, leading to measurable progress and lasting change.

Egan's Skilled Helper Model

I also use Egan's Skilled Helper Model, a flexible, three-stage approach that helps us to gain clarity on what you want to change, set realistic goals, and to formulate a manageable plan that you can take forward with confidence.

I can help you tackle common problems, such as:

  • Career Wobbles: Whether you're feeling uninspired or ready for a complete change, we can explore your options and find your next step.
  • Feeling Stuck: We can work together to gently break down those barriers and rediscover your motivation.
  • Improving Confidence: Assertiveness and self-confidence are not 'static' parts of our personality. Together, we'll work to improve your self-image and rebuild your confidence.
  • Big Life Decisions: Life's major crossroads can be overwhelming. We'll explore your choices to bring clarity to the situation.

How We'll Work Together

My priority is to give you the tools and confidence you need to navigate your immediate issues with a little more ease. During our introductory call, we can chat about your specific challenge and arrange a first session, during which we will:
Explore in depth the issue at hand - and how it's affecting you in your daily life.
Look at what's already working. You have more strengths and resources than you think, and we'll shine a light on them.
Create a simple plan. We'll break down the problem, introducing small, manageable steps you can take straight away.
Build momentum. You'll leave feeling more in control, with a clear sense of purpose and direction.

Mentoring vs. Therapy: What's the Difference?

It's a great question, and it's important to understand the difference. Psychotherapy often involves a deeper, longer-term exploration of past experiences and emotional patterns. My Solution-focused Support sessions are different. They are designed to be a short-term, goal-oriented service for specific, present-day challenges. These sessions are about practical problem-solving and moving forward, not a deep dive into your history.
